"Help. 2001, 3.0. Changed plugs, wires, used Seafoam, changed the fuel filter. It ran great for a month or so. Except for a hesitation when giving it the gas. A week ago it started to have a problem when going slow. I filled it to the brim with gas just before leaving for a week at the beach and now it won't start. It seems to be trying to idle, but cuts out after a few seconds. I have the gang coming for 2 weeks the first of July. HELP!"

""I filled it to the brim

""I filled it to the brim with gas" - check the vent hose to the gas tank- sagging, kinked or full of gas? Check the vent fitting on the outside of the transom, wherever, to see if insects have plugged it. Fuel filter(s) clean?
Disconnect fuel line from cark and see if fuel pump is actually working. Be careful - don't risk a fire. Hope you get it going. JW in Dixie"

"If it's carbed,
first, a hesitation at acceleration would indicate a bad accel. pump. check for two
streams of fuel in the primaries when giving throttle.
second, sounds like a carb issue. Check for crud in carb and clean the idle circuits. also check the inlet filter (screen) at carb. Come to think of it, you might as well rebuild it with proper kit, and pay close attn. to float adj. section."

"filters? Do you have a water-sep fuel filter? How old is it? Also, have you check the carb-body filter(if equipped)? if you had crud/water in your tank, when you ran low on gas you could have started to injest it. Now your'e clogged and can't get any gas through."

"Lots of good ideas guys. Chris,I just pulled off about 6 mud wasp nests yesterday. I'll look for more. Saw several wasps flying around this morning.
Warren, I will check out your suggestions, too.
Kurt, I can't get it running to check the 2 streams of fuel and I don't really want to rebuild one, but might consider having it done. Anyone have a good place to rebuild one? Price?"

Bob:

Does your elec. fuel pump run for a moment when you turn on the ignition? Did you pull the antidrainback valve at the fuel tank to see if it is full of gunk; it's where your fuel line is connected? Do you have spark? I assume you have a coil pack in lieu of a distributor. What about a kill switch in the "KILL" position?
