Mercruiser Trim Problem HELP

"My eng trim stopped working.

"My eng trim stopped working. It just makes a click sound. To make it work again I have somebody push them trim bottom (up or down) and tap on the positive terminal of the pump with wrench and it starts working again. I tap on the little red box on the pump. (I really dont know what you call it) Any advise as of what it could be my problem.

For this pum to work I have to tap on this red box and have somebody push the trim bottom at the same time

"It could be any number of things, make sure ALL connections are clean and tight. The tapping to make it work sounds like a failing solenoid. (advise, do not keep hitting that pump unless you wish to buy a new one) At this point the repair is cheap. If you break the magnets in the motor by hitting it, it is going to get expensive.
The solenoids are the parts that the wires attach to on the pump assay."
