Mercruiser timing

Hello everyone I need some heip I have a 1995 Bay liner with a 3.0 litre engine The motor was no good so I replaced it with a motor that was a couple years older that had points instead of electronic so I took the electronic ignition from the original motor and put it on the older motor. The older motor with point called for timing to be 6 degress before top center the motor I took out with electronic ignition calls for 1 degree before top center which should I use? Thank you

Ayuh,..... Use the spec for the ignition system used,.....

Right . The internals of the motor didn't change.

If you are using a delco EST distributor, I'd suggest setting the timing at the max advance point and live with the initial value...as long as the module is working correctly...
