Mercruiser Starter Questions

I have a starter that is not working. What part number or where can I order one from? It is a 4.2. 1986 futurecraft boat. any help would be greatly appreciated. Also how hard of an installation is this?

remove the battery cable from the battery, remove the wires, remove the 2 bolts
Did you verify the starter actually being bad?
Did you jump the yellow/red to the battery lug?
Are the battery cables AND the cable ends clean and tight?

Yes the starter is the problem. It winds and grinds and I think the teeth are messed up.

Go on ebay and put in Marine starter, the engine size, make and year. Wide variety. Make sure you put Marine and cheaper isn't always better.
