Mercruiser out drive service

I have a ten year old mercruiser i/o (150 hp). I was recommended to have it serviced from my long time boat service. When used the boat for the first time outdrive gearoil alarm came on. Had it sent back ($$$$). They said the gear lube lock-on hose was dry rotted. It seems they would have inspected that on the initial service? They said it was too hard to get to? Also the trim works but not the gauge. Cable not reconnected? Please advise if the hose should have been replaced on the original service. Thanks, fred

You may want to repost this in the "mercruiser" section. You have ended up in "Merc outboards".

But to short answer your question about "service", it means different things to different folks. You need to ask specifically what is included and then ask further "if this was your unit/motor whatever, what additionally would you inspect".
