Mercruiser inboard, 3 litre, over heating?

Hi

My 3.0ltr inboard mercruiser is over heating very quickly. There was smoke coming out of the air filter so I took it off and gave it a good clean. Put it back on and it is still smoking up/over heating.

When running the boat, what temp should the gauge be reading?

A new prop was fitted at the end of last summer and I was told fully serviced.

Ideas? Based in Glasgow

what temp was yours reading and does "fully serviced" include a water pump kit?
