Mercruiser GM 5.7 - Starter- Removal

Good Evening Everyone,
I have a older Tiara 25' with a Mercruiser 5.7 in it. Forgot to pull the bilge plug two years ago and portion of starter was submerged for a few months. Now it is clicking on first try to start then it starts second try. Yes, starter most def needs to be rebuilt. Went to pull it out and wow!!! Not an easy job. Two bolts are staggered on bottom of starter and can hardly get to them with 1/2 wrench. Would anyone have any ideas on how I can drop starter without having to start taking engine apart? Starter part number is 30470.

If anyone has done this before, Please advise. Would be much appreciated.

....or check and see if the problem is really the starter slave relay first. Its mounted on top of the engine... Short the two big terminals on the top together to test.

Ayuh,..... I usually can reach down in there with a fine toothed long handled rachet, 'n socket to break 'em free,....
Being upside down, ya gotta turn 'em clockwise from above,....

Otherwise as BD says, pull the exhaust manifold off for more room,...
