Mercruiser engine life spans.

Just curious on ball point figures for 470-485 mercruisers life span, ( In hours)... I currently have 3000 odd hours on my 485.. Mostly trolling hours, should I expect much more?
 
If raw water cooled and run in sea water, maybe not. Frequent replacement of the elbows and exhaust manifolds will help.
 
Its freash water cooled, run In seawater, Ive replaced the risers ever 2 years, Even though they look alright, still running the original manifold which still looks like new,.
 
I've heard reports of up to 5000 hours for this scenario.

They do until they die. They rust out from the inside.
