mercruiser alpha stern drive issue maybe

First time boat owner here!! I have a merc 165 Hp motor with a mecruiser alpha one outdrive on a 1987 fourwinns 190 horizon. Just bought boat. Had it out today. Ran great most of the day. End of day it started to bog down when in drive and trying to accelerate, seems ok in no wake speed. Happen a couple of time during the day, then seemd to go away. . In neutral motor revs strong. In drive, it bogs down with no power.
Any ideas? Hoping its not serious. serious = $$$$

Have you checked the oil level in the drive?

A couple questions and will help if I am able to.
Do you know how long it sat before you purchased it or any history? Is problem still intermittent or is it constant now? Was the gas tank full,empty,mid-way, when you bought it? (oop never mind, I see the good doctor is online. Best of luck)

In drive, it bogs down with no power.

If the RPMs increase w/more throttle but the boat doesn't move much suspect the prop slipping. Keep the neutral revs under 2000 RPMs.

Bogging down with no power. Sounds like it may be time to just replace the fuel filters.

dump the fuel/water separating filter when your changing it, see how much water, might have the dreaded phase separation.
