Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 not shifting

I have a Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 that is "stuck" in neutral. I have disconnected the lower shift cable and tried to move it by hand, nothing. I also, while I had the lower shift cable disconnected from the upper mount, I tried to pry the linkage on the lower unit left and right. It wasn't moving at all. Curious if any of you guys have had this issue and what was the fix. I was gonna take the outdrive off, but looks like I can't even do that cause the linkage is stuck in neutral and needs to be in forward to take it off. PLEASE HELP!

Ayuh,..... Drop the lower unit 1st, to release the shift linkage, then pull the upper to see what's wrong,....
