Hi .. Dumb question alert!!

The Mercruiser Alarm Warning System “Buzzer, is this special or can a suitable 12volt buzzer be used?

Reason for asking is not because of costs but aesthetics.

I am repowering with a new Mercruiser V8 6.2L and the standard rigging kit does not come with the warning buzzer. I am completely re-doing the dashboard and there are a host of waterproof 12volt buzzers with chrome surrounds that would look good. The SmartCraft Tacho has two wires for connecting the warning alarm which looks like Mercruiser part number 816492a15.

Just a thought as I can only think the buzzer is a standard 12volt buzzer, the error codes would be displayed on the Tacho or a VesselView display.

Yes, any 12V buzzer will work so long as current draw is low. I would want one that draws no more than 1/2 amp (500mA), most are much less (under 50mA)

Most buzzers are mounted behind the helm and out of sight
