"Guys:
This season (as gas prices are so high) I decided to invest in ans install a Faria Fuel Management system. The system claims an accuracy of +/-5% if not calibrated, +/- 2% calibrated. I decided that 5% is ok, and have had a chance to run the boat for about 5 hours with it. My concern, comes from reading some other threads about fuel burn. At WOT - (4400 RPM with a 14.25x21 3 blade Mercury Torrent) the system is telling me I have a 17-18 GPH fuel burn depending on load. I am averaging 12 GPH at optimum cruise range of 3500 RPM/38MPH. Does that seem low to anyone?
Things that have been done:
1. rebuilt carb isntalles last season,
2. New Fuel water seps - I have two one after the other in line - one on the engine - and one on the bulhead aft of the rear bench.
3. New Carb filter screen.
4. Checked final idle at 600rpm and adjusted idle mixture.
5. New plugs, wires, Dist - cap, and rotor.
6. Set timing to 8 Degrees BTDC as per Seloc manual.
7. Oil changed, and flame arrestor cleaned.
8. Lower unit oil changed at begining of season.
9. Verified all four carb jets appear to be outputing normally. (Rochester 4MC Y40 Qjet).
I am worried that I could be burning up the engine internaly if it should truly be up around 26 GPH (1 gph/10hp). However - engine temps, oil pressure and water pressure are all good.
Penny for your thoughts?
Thanks!
