I have a 5.0 Mercruiser Alpha

I have a 5.0 Mercruiser Alpha One engine that dies out a couple of times a day when running the boat. You can be running 30 mph and the boat will start choking down and cut off. It will crank right back up. It doesn't appear to be an electrical problem because it doesn't shut off completely. It chokes down. I have had the dealer look at it and they can't find anything wrong with it. I got some fuel additive to see if that helps. Any thoughts on what might be causing the engine to die?

"Did you check the screens on

"Did you check the screens on your pickup tubes at the gas tank? I had something similar happen a few years ago. When I switched the fuel hose to the other pickup, it ran fine. Then that tube would get clogged. I couldn't take the tubes out to clean them so I tried an additive that seemed to work. Fuel Enzyme treatment by Startron. I haven't had the problem since. I'm sure more knowledgeable guys have other ideas."

Make sure the barrell plug for

Make sure the barrell plug for the engine is clean inside and tight. Plug it back in and slip a zip tie on it.

On top of the starboard exhaus

On top of the starboard exhaust; large black main engine electrical plug.

I will try to look for it when

I will try to look for it when I get home. Hopefully it will not be too hard to find. I'm assuming it plugs into another electrical wire.

Is it bad for getting a poor c

Is it bad for getting a poor connection. It feels more like a starving fuel problem than an electrical problem but at this point I am willing to try anything.

"I had a simalar problem with my 1987 5.0 Mercruiser. I bought it from a good friend who rarely used it, and after replacing the fuel pump, lines, filter, and fresh gas, it still did it. Where your fuel line comes out of the tank there is a hose barb there. Remove the fuel line and remove this hose barb. I had trash in it, clogging the Anti-Siphon Valve, as its called. I cleaned the trash out of this "hose barb" and all is better. Inside the anti-siphon valve is a little ball with spring. Do not replace it with a standard hose barb, as it is a safety feature."

"Check out the gas tank vent,

"Check out the gas tank vent, all the way . Had one with spyder nest that plugged it solid. The engine ran just like yours. Do the simple less costly things first. We rebuilt the carb and it still died out when the tank could not vent and created a vacumn."

"if its still doing it, what y

"if its still doing it, what year and type(carb, efi, mpi, if carb is it tks?)I like to kinda know what species I'm guessing at."

It is a 2007 Mercruiser 5.0. The carborator is setting on top of the motor. It is in a 210 Nautic Star deck boat.

Where would the gas tank vent

Where would the gas tank vent be located. Kind of new to the whole boating deal. I bought the boat new. I put in some fuel additive and have not tried it out on the water since.

Anybody know right off where t

Anybody know right off where the fuel line would come out of the tank and how to get to it on a Nautic Star 210 Deck boat?

"open the engine hatch and loo

"open the engine hatch and look for the fuel tank, the big one is the fill line and the smaller one goes to the fuel filter.
Guessing what you are saying and engine year you should have TKS, (turn key starting)

I would also check the connections at the oil pressure switch, this will cut the power to the fuel pump and give you that loss of fuel feeling."
