A bit of history:
Last repair done by shop last fall – when shifting intoreverse, wouldn’t idle and would cut out.
Shop worked on it last fall but I didn’t have a chance totest it in the water until this season.
Since launching this season, runs great when it runs.
Cuts out during idle and also during higher throttle speed. Just cuts out like someone turned off keyjust dies.
Started doing it occasionally, then increased.
However, it always starts cold with a simple turn of thekey, in neutral – don’t have to give it gas.
Then after cutting out a few times, you can still start itby pushing throttle forward, but won’t stay running.
Eventually gets to no start, just turns over and sounds likeno spark.
Here’s the strange part:
Went out w/someone to check it out – started cold, noproblem. Cut out at low throttle rightaway and wouldn’t restart.
Strangely, we held open the carburetor open and it started, and then we noticed the air filter was dirty so we thought that was theissue. Ran perfectly after that forentire day.
Next time I took it out, back to cutting out. Figured it was a fuel issue. Replaced fuel filter, no change. Replaced fuel pump – finally got to the pointwhere it ran for probably 3-5 minutes perfectly (in driveway w/muffs). Could move throttle from fast to slow, stillran. Could move to idle – continued towork. Thought I’d fixed it, thought I’lllet it run again to be sure, started cutting out again and only turns over –seems like no spark.
Do I now start testing ignition? Could it be a bad coil? Please help – I needmy boat running for this short, expensive season!
