My Mercruiser 5.0L hates going forward. Neutral and reverse are fine.
In neutral, idles perfectly forever. Runs temp up to about 170. Will run up to about 3000 RPM and stay there with no problem. Smooooooth.
In reverse. The thing could dig a hole in the water, and sink the boat. Unlimited smooth power, no problem.
In Forward! The opposite. Spits, backfires, won't pull. Chugs and cough like a teenager who just inhaled their first double shot of pepper vodka. This chugging and coughing and no power persists at any throttle level. You can smell the gas!
The boat was not used last year, but the engine was fired up, spring tuned up, winterized, etc. Gas tank is 1/2 full and fuel conditioner is added.
All suggestions welcome.
