"HELP. I have a mercruiser 470 with outdrive and I cant stop it pulling to port. The boat sits level when stationary and travels straight at slow speeds, I have ajusted the tab at the top to the max to compensate for the pull as in the owners manual instructions but at high speeds even with the trim tabs ajusted to the max it still pulls to port and feels like you have 2 people standing on the port side of the boat. Hope you know what I mean, Please help.

Check your port side trim cyli

Check your port side trim cylinder; it may not be holding pressure.

"is your skeg bent ? my father in law's boat is the same way and his skeg is bent, bottom to the left..

I don't think a leaking trim cylinder would do that, it would affect not keeping the bow up."

"Brian, think about it if the starboard trim tab is down and the port is up the starboard will push the bow to port. But I agree the skeg being bent would cause this also."

"yes, agree the trim tab would do it, but guy didn't mention the tab he just said the port trim cylinder, thanks it didn't click he meant the tabs. I know from reading a lot of his posts(3985) he knows a few things.

I think the poster needs to be a little more clear about pulling or leaning to port, I like the investigative process.. Though he did mention adjustin the trim tab but is that the steering toque trim tab above the prop or Boat Leveling Trim tabs (Bennets) etc... ???"

"Try it without the use of the trim tabs and see if it gets a little better. If not...You might have some water logged foam on the port side of the boat.

If it is a trim cylinder and you have Bennett tabs then just call them, chances are they will send you a new cylinder for free! I got one eventhough my tabs are 25 years old. Some story about a bad batch of cylinders and they want to make it right. I figure if anything lasts 25 years then they made it right the first time."

mine pulls to port doesnt lean

mine pulls to port doesnt lean that way just pulls ive played with the anode tab and got it tolerable but it still pulls and ive chalked it up to be the h/p ss prop

"just for us small boaters that dont get to play with them.. ( i've been thinking about the "auto" ones but my boat doesn't seem to need em, though it would help to keep it level while running, then so would a gyro."

Thanks very much for all your input and help gents. I have checked that the Skeg is straight and seems to be OK. The mention about the port side trim tab I havnt checked and makes complete sense I will investigate that idea next time im out.
Thanks again. Thank god for Forums.

"My guess is that if you put an SS prop on then you had to change the Trim Anode as well. Mine isn't too noticeable but the performance tab is adjusted as for to starboard as it can be and there is still a tiny bit of pull at WOT. But since I don't usually cruise at WOT I don't notice the pulling at all. It tracks pretty straight otherwise. Here is the one I have:

I still had to file some down so the prop would fit. I noticed the previous owner did the same."
