"I recently aquired a boat from a friend who was going to junk it. It is a 78 Baja with a 470 Mercruiser. I have read many of the posts in here about the 470 issues with cooling and electrical. I can deal with just about an mechanical issue that arises. (as long as I have a book) However mine question is more of a design question. The Doghouse was removed from this boat and is no longer around so I plan on fabricating one. So will I have issues using a marine plywood to fabricate this? (heat concern) also, the original doghouse went from side side, flush with the back of the boat, as long as the new doghouse clears all moving parts on the motor, does it matter how much space it has to breathe?"

"Not really,,, ,Ive built marine interiors for 20 years, for both aftermarket and OEM and never had trouble with plywood gettin warm enough combust. you might want to put some insulating matl inside to hold down noise a little more, just make sure nothing is close enough to touch the moving parts, if there are any pullys close to the front.there is plenty of breathing room from the bilge vents"

"Cool, I will keep that in mind, insulation is a good idea, I hadn't even thought of that. This boat isn't quite what I wanted, but you can't beat free. I was hoping it was going to be a deeper hull boat so I could take it out on bigger water and attempt to do some fishing from it. Oh well, maybe I'll just fix this up and sell/trade it for something more suited for fishing."

"Also, unless you want carb problems, leave lots of space for air to flow about the engine. If not, gas will perolate in the carb, making restarts a bear.

"There is a sound/vibration dampening 'paint' that takes up less space than conventional foam type insulation. It's called Silent Running 1000.
