Mercruiser 3.7L 190

Hello! I have a 1985 Mercruiser 3.7L 190 and yesterday when i had it out on the water the voltage regulator fried itself. I do not know much about boats i fix all my own cars so been trying to get this boat all figured out i called my boat guy for advice because he doesn't work on these old prehistoric motors anymore and he said i could buy a new voltage regulator or they make conversion kits to put a alternator on. Does anyone know where i can find a new regulator at a decent price or a conv kit at a decent price or if they make the conv kit anymore he wasn't for sure or where i could pick up a used one? Thanks for all the help guys like i said i am new to all this so looking for all the info i can.

Some have been experimenting with the regulator from the larger Harley-Davidson motors
some are rated above 30 amps output

Awesome i appreciate all of your help! Do you know if i have to get a different conversion kit since mine has power steering and that one is for one without power steering?
