Mercruiser 3.0

I have a 1998 bayliner 1952 cn with a 3.0 (0l038371) in it was wanting to know if a 4.3 will fit the drive is (0l149863) any help will be great thanks

you mean fit the transom , it should but the gear ratio should be changed from 1.98 -1 to 1 84-1 or try to run a larger prop

If you have a 1998 boat then you have a Alpha 1 Gen II outdrive.
As BT said the gear ratio is specific for 4 cylinder applications....1.98:1

The V6 uses a 1.84:1 gear ratio.

So if you swap the motor you will need to either swap the upper gear case for one with the proper gear ratio or replace gears in the upper gear case in order to get the proper ratio.

Also the inline 4 cylinder has a motor mount in the front of the engine to a cross stringer from side to side of the boat.

The V6 has two motor mounts and they are on the sides of the block so if you do not have stringers, one each side of your current engine in place to mount the motor mounts to then you will either have to install new stringers or not attempt an engine swap.

Yes do not over rev it and change your oil as it should be per the owners manual if you have one. Typically I would say every 100 hrs or every season.

Use a high quality oil as I believe mercruisers standard non synthetic oil is 25-40 weight and a quality oil filter. Not Walmart Fram.

What I use is Napa Gold oil filters (~ $8.00) and Mobile One 15-50 weight synthetic oil in all the boats I service including mine, Available for around $26.00+/- for 5 quart jug at walmart. But that is your decision..........

Make sure you change the gear lube (high performance mercruiser) at least every season.

Other than that a big cooler that keeps the beers cold.

Cool thanks I just got the boat and it needs a starter and carburetor work I know it's been sitting Up for about 4 years so I don't know what i will find. I've got about $350 in it so

While an automotive starter may fit and work, you are taking your life in your hands.... MARINE CERTIFIED for starter, distributor, alternator, carb, fuel pump, fuel hoses, flame arrestor ONLY!!!!.... i.e. ALL fuel and electrical components in the engine compartment.... and "below" decks must be "Marine".

Some water seems to be coming out the exhaust when I put the earmuffs on the water intake only lower unit but not much but not much And do they have a thermostat

I assume you meant what is a good rev limit for a 3.0? I believe the book has it at 4400-4800 rpm , I think on my 1991 the rev limiter kicked in at 4900-5000.
