"I have a 1977 Mercruiser (165 H.P., inline 6 Cylinder). It runs great for about 20 minutes and then acts as though it is running out of gas. I've cleaned out the gas tank, lines, fuel pump (nearly new), filters etc. I've also replaced the distributor cap, rotor, points, condensor. I noticed that the coil seemed to be unusually hot and replaced it. Still the same thing (runs and begins surging). I would appreciate any advice on what could be causing this.

"could be the condensor, even

"could be the condensor, even new ones can be bad, would cause the coil to be hot, also you need to check voltage with the key in the RUN and START position at the coil, should be 12v at START and 6-9v in run ( prefer 9v ), if more then you have a problem with the Resistor wire. You may want to think about getting a Pertronix Ignition setup with a new Coil.

What type of fuel tank do you have and have you checked the fuel color and if there is any water in the fuel by letting a sample sit in a clear container ?

Not much else, only fuel and spark, when was the carb rebuilt last? What Octane fuel are you using? those things like 92+ oct."
