Mercruiser 140 engine cutting out when accelerating

I have a 1999 Bayliner with a Mercruiser 140 that has been having problems of late. After sitting up for the season, my engine is stalling when accelerating or when running faster than a very low speed. It feels as if the carburetor is not getting gas. The fuel pump has been replaced, the carburetor has been rebuilt, the gas tank has been drained, an inline fuel filter has been installed. The problem is extremely sporadic and has contributed to the mechanic not being able to fix. It ran this weekend for several hours before it had a few isloated instances of the problem on Saturday but after looking at the carburetor for a bit, it cleared up and never had issue again. Then, on Sunday, problem started again and every time I attempted to accelerate, it started to cut out and die. Has anyone experienced such a problem?

Open the dist cap.

The points clean, the weights moving ?

The shaft wobbly ?

Say it ain't the dist ?

Do a compression test.

Say you got good compression, and the boat is times correctly.

Run it on a external tank of gas.

Clean gas run straight to the fuel pump.

Make sure the vent is open.

Get back to us.
