Merc scratch on hood

"I have a new 2007 black merc

"I have a new 2007 black merc 50HP, the chair swung around and gouged the top hood of the motor, is there a way to repair this with out it looking like it's been repaired?"

"Cary, you can use autobody filler (fibreglass) which usually also lists boat repairs as well on the kit.

Then a spray can of Merc "phantom black" paint, a bit of clear coat and all looks pretty again

"Bryan, got the decals from a graphic arts place in Georgia (if I'm remembering right - have their website/email somewhere).

They do them, semi-custom, with the Canadian and U.S. Flag backgrounds. Depending on the length, they run 30-35 bucks, and another 10 or so for the horsepower numbers. I think they look great and are quite a bit cheaper than getting decals from the mfg...."

"Thanks Graham the scatch isnt that big maybe an inch and the motor not being more than a month old i dont want to repaint the complete hood, i was thinking of added some resin to fill the hole and put a decal on top, ebay had a few i could make it look like it was factory."

After all, you are the one who will notice it the most, from a few feet away, even a minor gouge doesn't look too bad....."
