Merc outdrive HELP

Good afternoon everyone.I have a 1983 Viking deckboat. I was told by a Marine mechanic that the outdrive which is a Pre Alpha is shot. I have been searching for info with no luck. My question is Will an Alpha 1 Gen 1 bolt up to my boat without any mods? Would you guys recommend a different outdrive? The engine is a Merc. 260(5.7 ltr). I appreciate any & all advice. Thanks

A regular MC1,or Alpha will bolt up . make sure the gear ratio is 1.50-1

Thank you. When you say Alpha, are you referring to Alpha 1 Gen 1? Sorry I am new to the boating world.

there is no generation 1 alpha. there called Alpha .period There is the MC1,R , MR, Alpha
The newest drives are called Alpha GEN II

Any non, alpha gen two, will work on your boat.
