I have a 2002 optimax 150 hp.

I have a 2002 optimax 150 hp. I have a continuous alarm going off at different times. It seems to be an oil problem. I have replaced the whole reservoir under the cowl along with the switch mounted on it. I changed the fuel filter and I have cleaned checked all oil lines on the onboard tank. It seems like air pressure will build up in the onboard tank and when I vent the tank the alarm will stop. It’s a vent less system but what is holding back the flow and tripping the alarm. Thanks

"A continuous alarm with no re

"A continuous alarm with no reduction in rpms would normally be caused by the temp sensor at the compressor on that particular model.

There is a small water line that feeds water to cool the compressor and fuel rails. At the end of it, where it goes into the compressor is a small filter that Merc calls a strainer.

It gets clogged up and the motor detects an overheat at that sensor which simply results in an alarm (most other sensors will cause an alarm and rpm reduction).

The strainer costs about 5 bucks and is one of the most mis-diagnosed problems with the Opti's - so worth a look..."

"Jim, the main tank has a screen in the pickup tube. Clean it out and soap up all the joints to look for air leaks. There is also an inline filter in the liquid line goining into that kidney tank."

Thanks for the feedback. When

Thanks for the feedback. When I find the strainer I will remove and clean. I also cleaned the pick up screen in the onboard tank I checked all the lines to be sure there tight. The float switch in the motor tank was replaced and I also did the in line oil filter along with the fuel filter. I also heard on another forum that there’s check valves that go bad. I need to fix this it’s starting to make me crazy. Thanks

I cleaned the check valve on the oil air line. It was full of oil sludge. I'm going to order a new one anyway. Something has to do it. Test run after work tomorrow.

THe horn sounds a countinous blast for high-heat.
The throttle position sensor will sound countinous short blasts. Check the impeller water pressure/temp.

"Is the motor too hot to touch

"Is the motor too hot to touch when the alarm goes off? could be a toasted sensor (quite common)...

There is one sensor in each head and one at the compresser.

A cont. horn plus an rpm restriction would indicate one of the head sensors - just the horn, the one at the compressor."

I don't know if it too hot

I don't know if it too hot to the touch But I did Notice a lot of steam from the motor. And not from boats next to me in the water. Some time the water discharge streem is very hot. There is an rpm restriction when the alarm is going off. Thanks for all the help and all the areas area’s to check out.
