"I have a Merc model 200(2

"I have a Merc model 200(20hp) from the 70's and its got a merc control with a choke button and key. The problem is the key switch assembly has one burnt terminal and the wires are so old the isulation is fraying from the wire. The motor currently wont start. Looking online the cost of a new wire harness is close to 100 and a new key switch is 10-25. But a whole new control is 225. My questions are how could I change from a key switch to a button one, how would that effect the choke button? How do i go about rewireing the button or rewiring a new key switch to avoid the 100 dollar harness cost.

Another question I have is my transom triangle brackets have broken away from the botom of the boat, can I use alumiweld to secure them or how do you reccomend fixing the brackets?"

If the wire harness is showing

If the wire harness is showing signs of bare wires I'd replace the whole thing. Reason is you can't tell the condition of the wires inside the harness.
If the wires should short out you could have a fire very fast.
These remote controls are not very hard to find used. Keep a watch on eBay or try marinepartsoutlet.com.

As for the brackets you may want to have them welded. Glue is not going to hold them.
