Merc 9.8 runs and stalls

Recently got this running, took it out today and it will run for a short while under load and eventually get hot and stall? Water issues? Impeller? I am not sure on year either and couldnt locate a serial?

PUll l/u check condition of impeller,Pull plugs and inspect for water droplets,possible head gasket problem,next compression test on cylinders

There is no head gasket on this motor.-------Year is 84 / 85 based on the decals.
