"You should have no trouble installing a charging system on your 7.5. I have installed a charging system on my 1982 9.8 which is virtually the same motor.

You will need to find the altenator (in this case the altenator is a semi-circular array of coils) and rectifier required for your motor. You can easily find a rectifier at any merc dealer for around 40 dollars. The altenator will be slightly harder to find, the one for your motor is a discontinued part but if you contact your mercury dealer they may be able to find one laying around in their store. Only trouble is the altenators are expensive (around 100 dollars) so I would suggest finding a used one on Ebay as I did.

To install the altenator you will need to pull off the flywheel and the altenator should fit in with the stator assembly.
