Merc 75 7.5hp 2 stroke year question

For the life of me I can't figure out what year the motor I have is. I found the SN located on the transom mount. The number is 5016277. When I look it up in various sites nothing comes back. Should I assume it's a '77' based on the last two digits?

Physically, it's a black cowling with Mercury 75 in blue on the side. The motor is the black 'comet' twin cylinder 2 stroke motor with the thunderbolt ignition (I believe). I say believe because I think I saw that on the cowling by the pull-starter. The spark coils are orange.

Ultimately I'm trying to troubleshoot a single cylinder running problem, but would like to know the year in case I have to buy parts. I won't go into that here as that's another thread in it's own right!

Thanks all!

Common mistake to think that the year is somehow in the serial #----------------I think it is a 78 if it is a USA built model.-------Picture of the cowling helps as well.--The serial # is required by most dealer before they will order parts, not the year.

Ok, I'll try to get a picture of it this evening. I looked up the SN on Mercury's page and it came back with something similar to "not a valid SN" response.

Try seaching for -----------mastertechmarine------------and see the #'s listed on there.---Or look on ---nymarine------ to see if the decals on your cowling are on their list.

I'll check the pages listed. Here are the pictures. Sorry about the orientation (iPhone)

Based on the mercurytechmarine site it falls within the 1978 range.

So I've been looking around. I can't confirm but the decals show that they are currently available from Canada. Does that mean the decals are FROM Canada, or that this is a Canadian engine and if so, what does that mean from a replacement parts standpoint? Again, I'm trying to confirm what I will need (as posted in a different thread) what I'll need to order replacement spark coils. I'm trying not to cross forums :)
