"I have a 1971 Mercury 650 Keikhaufer outboard. It is on a 1971 Reinell Tri Hull. I am not used to the control box that has the speed/trans etc. controls on it. I can not find any info on what all the levers/controls are for.
It has a bigger lever on the left I know is for forward/reverse/speed. The one on the right , the button on the top and the knob on the front have functions I do not know..
Does anyone have any info on these ???

Thanks for any help you can give me.........}"

"Dennis, it sounds like you have a dual handle control box which was quite common years ago.

One of the handles should be the throttle, the other handle would be the gear selecter.

You may have a button that might have to be depressed to unlock the shifter to allow moving in and out of gear (as a bit of a safety feature). The contol may also have a switch for power trim/tilt is so equipped. It could also include your keyswitch and possibly a killswitch.

Your control box could be original, an option or an added on "aftermarket" box. If you could post a picture of it or at least the brand/model perhaps someone can give you a more specific answer..."
