Merc 43LX Turns but wonbt start

"I have a Merc. 4.3LX in my 19

"I have a Merc. 4.3LX in my 1996 Bayliner. I had it out on the river a couple of weeks ago and it was running just fine. I pushed it a little hard and it started to overheat, but I shut it down to let it cool and never had another problem after that. Now, I'm getting ready to take it out again and can't get it to start. The engine turns over, but it never actually starts up. It's as if the kill switch was turned off, but that isn't actually the case. Help?!?!"
 
Check for spark at one of the

Check for spark at one of the spark plugs.
If you have spark try starter fluid into carb
and see if she starts. (be carefull of backfire)
Then go from there after you find if it's no spark or fuel related. if you appear to have both then a compression test is in order. Let us know.
