"Hi guys, I'm new to the site but needed some of your guys input on what my 2001 mercury 40 horse 2 strokes problem is.

Ran motor today for about an hour without any problem. After starting motor again motor would all of a sudden not go above about 2400 rpm even with the throttle fully engaged. Prior to this the motor ran well at around 5500 rpm... It still idles and runs fine when going slow but it's like it lost all it's guts with no prior warning. Slightly scared of mechanic bill as I just put 1000 of repairs into the boat so any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Ok, replying to my own post...One stupid thing I did that may be worth mentioning. I left my sunglasses case cord hanging around the throttle and it got stuck pretty good between the throttle and the control box. Is it possible this could have anything to do with the suddenness of my problem?
