I have a problem when shifting into forward gear and begin to accelerate. A few seconds after accelerating I hear a single clunk. This does not happen every time I accelerate but rather one out of four times maybe. For the most part shifting into gear is never a problem; however, I do have some trouble shifting from forward gear when idling into neutral. From everything I have read it sounds like I need to either adjust/replace my shift cable or interrupter switch. I have not attempted this yet, but it seems like it is a DIY project with the right manual information. My question is whether or not an out of adjustment shifter cable or interrupter switch could be causing the dog clutch to not fully engage in forward gear until the prop goes under load as I accelerate, essentially causing the gear and clutch to clunk one time as it fully engages. I recently had the yoke shaft seal replaced and when the outdrive was off the u-joints were inspected and lubed with no problems and the gimble bearing is fine too. Any thoughts on this subject would be great. My main concern is the single clunk that seems to occur intermittently. One other piece of info that may help is that it seems more likely to make the clunk noise if I shift into gear and then begin to accelerate immediately, as opposed to allowing the boat to idle in forward gear for 15 to 30 seconds or so. Thanks in advance for responses.
