"As a first time poster here, any help with this would be appreciated. (I tried posting this to another board but got no replies).

I was hoping that someone could verify that a few wires are properly connected in my 2001 Merc (Yamaha) 4 stroke 25 HP Big Foot OB motor. It runs fine but is hard to start after it has sat a bit, which I can deal with. But in doing some minor lube and service on it, I noticed something that appears odd with the wiring at the front of the power head.

There are three single wires at the front of the engine - each has quick connectors. There is a blue/white connected to a green/white, a green/white connected to a blue/white, and finally a brown/white that is disconnected from it's brown/white counter part. Logic would tell me that the blue/white should go the to blue/white and the green/white should to the green/white...is it proper that they are 'cross-connected'?

Finally, I'm wondering if the brown/white, which is disconnected from it's mate, should be connected.

I've attached a picture that shows all three wires. Again, any help with this appreciated!!!

"The colors are supposed to match up. Those blue and grean leads trigger the trim up and down. If smoeone flipped them, than the switch in the control box was working backwards. Sometimes the large leads going to the motor down inside the bracket gets flipped first and someone does that to straighten it out. Either way. It does not hurt anything.
The brown one would go to a trim/tilt gauge on the dash and the sensor on the motor that does that."
