I have a 1983 25hp merc that h

I have a 1983 25hp merc that has never had the impeller changed. I have tried to take the foot off but it will not drop off. Do I have to disconnect anything else? Thanks
 
You bet. Just under the power

You bet. Just under the power head is the shift linkage that moves a rod up and down. You have to remove this FIRST before the LU will drop. Note carefully how it goes together before ripping it apart.

Note: A photograph or three of it beforehand would be a wise move.
