"I have a 1996 Merc 225. If I advance the throttle slowly, the engine will sputter and die at around 1500 rpm. If I advance quickly to wide open, it will hesitate and sputter for a few seconds then pick right up to to approximately 5200 rpm. It always starts right up and idles fine. Could this be a carburetor problem or ECM?"

Has anyone found the solution to this?

I have the same problem and can't get it fixed.

So far I've:

Replaced ALL fuel lines - from tank all the way to the engine
Replaced Fuel filter housings
Replaced Fuel Filters
Replaced Fuel Bulbs
Drained and replaced fuel
Tested Fuel ventilation
Rebuilt all six carbs
Rebuilt full pump
changed out ECM
Tested coils
Compression tested cylinders
Changes out wires
Replaced spark plugs
changed out stator/trigger
Rebuild Reeds
