2001 Merc 225 EFI. I just repowered with a set with 284 hours. Took the boat out for the first time this morning. Motors ran like a top. When I got home and flushed them out I noticed ALOT of oil coming out of the exhaust at the prop (port engine) It appeared to be raw. What causes this and how do I fix it. Also looking at the flow scans it appeared that the port motor was burning approx 4 gph more than the other.....Any ideas?

I went out to the boat and have a small puddle of oil under the port motor. Looking under the cowl's the oil tank on the port motor was half full and still pressurized 8 hours later. The starboard motor tank was full and had no pressure. Checked the tanks in the boat and they were level. Anyone?

"Hi Richard

Check that the oil and air lines comming from the boat mounted oil tank are not switched, i has seen this one before."

"Richard,

I agree with Mich

"Richard,

I agree with Michael; that can easily happen.

Another thing I would check is the fitting on the crankcase where the pressure hose ( from the block to the remote tank ) connects to the block. This fitting is supposed to have a tiny by-pass which allows the pressure to drop off when the engine is turned off. If it does not function properly the pressure will force oil past the oil pump and into the crankcase.

I HAVE A 1998 MERCURY 225 EFI I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE OVERHEATING ALARM GOING OFF AT SHALLOW OR LOW SPEEDS THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE WATERPUMP THERMOSTATS ETS--I STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM AFTER LOTS OF MONEY SPENT 3 WATERPUMPS WITHIN 1 YEAR 6 THERMOSTATS 1 POPIT VALVE IN SIDE OF MOTOR NOW SINCE THE POPIT VALVE HAS BEEN REPLACED THE ALARM GOES OFF AT HIGH SPEED . IT IT PEEING GOOD WHEN THE ALARM GOES OFF SOMETIMES THE PEEING IS WEEK AT IDLE BUT GETS BETTER AS I GIVE IT GAS ...IS THERE ANY THING THAT I CAN DO IM RUNNING OUT OF MONEY ....

Test the temp sensor(s&#41

Test the temp sensor(s) - they are built cheap and prone to failure. A good tech would have checked that after the first impeller/thermostat change...
