Please help! at wits end
My merc 75 is giving me intermittent steady alarm on start up. Engine is new to me. I have looked at temperature changed water pump impeller/thermostat/poppet valve. Plug wires and plugs/ oil pressure sensor. Found and replaced a burned up regulator. The alarm was occurring intermittently upon start up when ever i started the boat since i got it. I shut it off motor and it may or may not happen for rest of the day....last night i called previous owner and he said he was able to get it to stop by manipulating the key. So i went out started the boat waited for the alarm. When it didnt happen I reached down and just touched the key and the alarm went off. I dont think it was a coincidence. Could a faulty ignition switch cause this issue. Im about ready to turn this merc into an artificial reef. I know i threw some parts at it because i initially thought it could be temperature. Then I tested spark with a timing light(faulty timing light) and was getting intermittent spark so I changed the wires and plugs after eliminating the possibility of bad coil packs. TYurns out the timing light had a poor connection. I ordered a new ignition switch its coming friday but Im looking for possibility and advice on wether the ignition switch could cause an alarm condition. Motor is running fine aside from the alarm.....help me save my sanity
