"That's a 1976 (like mine). It has the later design all electronic ignition. I suspect yours has one of two problems:

1. Bad connections to the coil (let's hope), or

2. Bad coil.

Check out the connections carefully, including the wires that go to the "black box" on the right front side. If that doesn't do it, you can swap the coils and see if the problem is now on the other cylinder.

PS: On the back side of the coils is a naked wire that needs a clean ground to the plate the coil is bolted to. Be sure this is the case. Terrible, rotten design, but... Oh, if it's a bad coil, there's several for sale on eBay at the moment."

"Typical crappy Merc wires! Not sure if you 'eat back' far enough on the wires to add new ones without damaging the black boxes. If you can, be sure to keep the color codes correct--it matters!
