Merc 1985 115hp Fuel Pump

I have a 1985 Merc 115hp inline 6 that has a fuel problem. I plan on rebuilding the carbs and replacing all the fuel line because of age and this new gas. I was also thinking of replacing the fuel pump with an electric Airex pump. My question has anyone done this with their motor and is it a good idea or bad idea? Should I replace the diafram in the old fuel pump and go with that? Any help would be appreciated.

Stay with the mechanical engine mounted pump. It has worked for 27 years.

Repair / recondition the exsisting pump.---------The pump is very reliable !----------Pay particular attention to the discs in the check valves.---------I have seen those where they were sticky and it gives an intermittant fuel problem.
