Merc 135 with strange behaviour

"Hello Everyone,

I have a 6

"Hello Everyone,

I have a 69 searay with a merc 135 V6 on it. I think it's a early to mid nineties motor.

Over the last year Ihave been pouring money into it thru the mechanics. Almost $3000.00, which I know is way more than the motor is work.

The current behaviour of the motor is this: Starts pretty well and idles OK ( doesn't stall) seems to pull our of the water well and then up to speed. While crusing at a constant speed I can notice considerable surging in the motors speed. After a while the engine starts to run slower and slower and the speed starts to drop.
I had to have it at WOT just to crawl into the launch. I let it sit for a minute or so and it started right up and planed well??

Only other question is how to adjust the throttle lever. After I put it in gear it takes almost all the travel of the throttle to get the boat to plane and then I have only about a inch or so to work with while driving?

Thanks for any help.

BB"

Seems to be running out of gas

Seems to be running out of gas. Check the fuel pump and all the lines primers and tanks. The throttle cable does not really adjust. If it does not throw all the way to WOT than smothing broke.

"With two men in the boat. As soon as that happens, the 2nd man primes the bulb. If that does it, than the fuel pump is bad."

"Bigbuilder, There is a rebuild kit for the fuel pump. You might like to get a manual as well to show you how to do it."

"I had the exact same problem,

"I had the exact same problem, remember to also thouroughly check your fuel lines from the connection at the motor and from the fuel pump to the carb I did a complete new fuel pump rebuild after had the same problems, and after heaps of tools got thrown around the garage I found the fuel line before the pump had a miniscule hole/split hidden under the braiding causing a dramatic drop in pressure but not leaking enough fuel to even notice. replaced all fuel lines and hey presto problem solved."
