"Hey everyone,

I have a merc 135 v-6 serial number is A933175 ( I think) that has been my nemisis for years.

The starter works but as soon as the engine fires then it disengages the flywheel. It makes starting when cold a nightmare. Ususally one can continue to crank the engine while it is "trying" to start and get it going. With this problem I have to attempt like 30 times before I can keep it going.

I have one other issue that I will post separately.

Thanks"

"Normal in those years. If you don't get it started on the first try, you will get stuck on it. Stand on the primer, 30 seconds, 1/3 throttle, and it should fire on the first try. If it misses than floor it and keep priming. You need to flood the piss out of these to start them."

Does squeezing the primer ball more than I would normally help too?"

Pump it up good. Those older motors have a centripetal bendex in the starter that is on a hair trigger. There is no magnetic plunger/lever to mash the gears together.

Just one more question about priming/choking it.

When you push the key in when starting it ...is this a primer? I can hear a solinoid click but thats it. I am used to electric chokes so this is new to me. should I start cranking immediately when I push the key inb or should I push it in for 30 seconds before I start cranking?

Thank you

Thanks. I am almost ready to try. I just finished removing oil injection unit.

Can you hear the primer when it's spraying? I can only hear one click when I push the key in?

just click. If you pull the out line off the valve and press it gas should run out. The in line goes to the top carb bowl gravity feed. Blow out all the lines.
