A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the symptoms on a customers '99 merc. 115. Starts and idles pretty much ok and it will run up to aprrox. 2800 rpm (in neutral). Get past that 2800 mark and the rpms almost immediately race up to over 5000 and it crackles some. The mech. replaced what appeared to be a bad timer base and went thru the carbs. Neither has solved this problem.
The mech. I'm using seems to think that this model is one that has two cyls. shut down at idle then they'll kick in as the motor calls for more power. I'm wondering if there's a sensor that may control that or if this could be spark advance related?
Anyone have any input? I'm at a loss.
