Merc 115 2000 no spark

Wires coming out of the voltage regulator got very hot at connections. I now have no spark. How can I test the regulator to see if that is the issue.

Most likely the stator is burnt. You can test that with an ohm meter. Pull the wires going to the spark box from the stator and read the resistance. Every wire MUST have some resistance to some other one.

Thanks for the responce
Not sure if I have the ohm setting on my meter set right. My Fluke meter had no readings at all on any settings. my Craftsman read .05 from yellow to yellow wire and nothing on the white and green striped wires on any setting. Do you still think it is the stator? I found a used one on ebay at $65.00. gwt

Your meters are not lying to you. The yellow to yellow is just the battery charging part of the stator. The rest is for ignition and--as you've seen--are open circuited (burnt).

Sorry,

Jeff

Hello Jeff
I got my stator and about to put it in. I am still worried about the voltage regulator and enything else I might have damaged that will effect the new stator. Are there any tests I can run on the regulator and any other parts?
