I own a 2001 Montery 302 with 2 inboard Mercury Cruiser 5.0 EFI engines. I recently discovered a problem with my port engine. There is a clicking or knocking noise coming from the port engine when attempting to bring the boat on plane.
I originally noticied the issue in May, however the boat was on plane immediately and put out 3500 to 4000 RPM even though there was the clicking or knocking nosie. The port engine will currently not put out over 1500 RPM and the clicking or knocking noise remains.
The port engine has less than 300 hours, I had the engine tuned up and oil replaced before the season and I checked the oil and it looks fine. Any ideas? What is the worst and best case scenario?
