I am really hoping somebody can help me. I have an MD 2040 Volvo Penta diesel engine. I am experiencing an issue when we are motoring along at 2000 RPM the engine will quickly drop RPM to almost stall if we put the put the engine back into neutral it will recover Run again for another 30 seconds or so and then the revs will drop again. If we run the engine at lower RPM like 1300 the engine will run for longer, but eventually the revs will also drop again returning the engine to neutral again will help it recover for only to stall again. Seems to make no difference if the engine is hit or cold
So far we have changed all the fuel lines the lift pump the high-pressure pump the injectors, the fuel head. the filters several times. We have also bled the system right up to the injectors and ensured all hoses are tightly secured. The drive chain and prop. Is also free of any fouling. There is a little white smoke from the exhaust at higher revs the elbow is also new
I have also tried running a few like directly to a Jerry can to bypass a few pick up. I have also cleaned the tank completely dumped the diesel and added new diesel. None of this has made any difference unfortunately any ideas?
My next port of course to perhaps look at the governor but I’m assured that these very rarely feel. Does anybody have any other ideas before I go to the expense and hassle of removing the governor from the camshaft?
Please let me know if you have any ideas as I am getting very exasperated!
