MC1 leg

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question I hope you can Answer.

I have an MC1 leg.

The upper drive is leaking gear lube from the joint assembly into bellows.

Lube is leaking down the shaft of bearing assembly.

I replaced the outer o-ring but have since noticed its leaking on to inside between the bearings and shaft.

What part or parts need to be replaced to seal this leak.

Cheers,
Mike.

Please give the year of the boat or the serial number if you have it...

MC1 not sure exactly what outdrive.

Look here at item 20, it is referred to as the carrier seal. This list/link is for a R, MR and alpha drive. Until we get more info on yours

Also you need to pressure check the entire drive to ~ 15 psi (no oil in drive) to confirm additional leaks or not.

This seal (item 20) rides on the gear (item 25) as seen in the parts diagram.

That surface on the gear can be very worn and a deep grove is the result and a new seal may not actually seal at that location.

A service marina would replace the gear to obtain a new sealing surface.

What also can be done is,

the seal is pressed into (item 19 aluminum carrier) and if the seal is pressed deeper into the carrier by about 1/16" or so you can get the seal to ride on fresh material with no grove.

If you do this make sure you press the seal in the correct direction (toward the gear).

Yup....me bad

the Yoke # 11 is what the seal rides on...........busy day yesterday had a lot on my plate...just trying to help....back the motor work....lol
