"Has anybody out there with a good quality Tach, ever checked what the corresponding voltage would be at various RPM's? I don't have access to a good tach and thought if I could convert the voltage to rpm's I could calibrate the tach I have in the boat. I'd know how close to actual it is. I do have a decent volt meter."

"Voltage varies with battery charge, so, it won't work. You can use an automotive tach - not expensive. JW in dixie"

Voltage doesn't matter the tach counts pulses of electricity.
You can calibrate your Tach by feeding a step down Ac voltage to the input. A 12v transformer should work. I don't recall the numbers as it's been years since I used one to calibrate tachs, but I imagine there's a web page that will tell you the cycles/cylinder count.

"$30 will get you a tach...or eBay for a used one if you want... A boat without one not a good idea. You can destroy an engine. But without knowing what engine, model or year impossible to give proper advice...we don't know what ignition system you have "
