i have a 25 hp mariner serial# A174514 what year model is it and how do you find that out

"John, that was built in 1985 and sold as the "New 1986", 25 horse model - the first year of that particular model run.

The motor stayed mechanically unchanged up until 1995. A few minor changes were made then and has once again stayed the same until present.

That model still sells outside the US as a Merc 25 "Saltwater" edition.

So parts and support are available everywhere.
