I have a mid 90s 8hp outboard

I have a mid 90s 8hp outboard that has the serial# tag missing. Is there another location for the #.
Thanks

"Yep, take off the hood and from behind the motor have a look on the right hand side, just between where you see the outline of the cylinders.

There will be a welsh plug (silver disk the size of a quarter) - will have the serial stamped there."

Thanks for the quick response.

Thanks for the quick response. I see what you are talking about but the disk is black and does not have a # on it. Maybe it was replaced? Any other suggestions.
Thanks

"If you can read the number on the carb I can narrow it down to within a year or two - it will be a WMC-xx cast into the carb body.

But regardless of exactly what year it is, the 1986-95 models were all mechanically identical and then then the 95-2005 models were once again identical (with only a couple minor changes from the earlier ones).

In fact, a Merc serial is really just a production number with no date encoded. So if a dealer had one that was built in 1986 that sat in his shop for say 6 years and ultimately sold in 1992, it would have been sold as a "new" 92 model with full warranty."
