Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the year of my 8hp Mariner Outboard Motor.

Model: 8M

I'm guessing it's made in Japan and has 677- before the 033303, if that's the case it's 1980.

1981 according to Yamaha but 1980 is close enough.

Presumption being there is 677 and either an S or an L in front of the numbers.

Thank you for responding, yes sir it says made in Japan and no sir there is no 677 located on it only a 6G1.

Best bet for parts is to look at a Yamaha parts catalog for a model 8SG.

All of that together makes up the Yamaha engine ID. 6G1 S 033303.

I should have stated a Yamaha USA parts catalog for a model 8SG. If you are not in the USA it may go by a different model identity.
